Description

This Easy Garlic Parmesan Flatbread Pizza features crispy golden flatbread topped with buttery roasted garlic, melted mozzarella, and nutty parmesan cheese. Ready in just 20 minutes, it’s the perfect quick dinner or impressive appetizer that tastes like it came from a gourmet pizzeria!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pieces flatbread or naan (about 6-8 inches each)
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 5-6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese, divided
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Extra virgin olive oil for drizzling (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Arrange your flatbreads on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.

Step 2: Make the Garlic Butter
In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter completely. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned—burned garlic tastes bitter. Remove from heat and stir in the garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

Step 3: Apply the Base
Using a pastry brush or the back of a spoon, generously brush the garlic butter mixture over each flatbread, making sure to spread it all the way to the edges. This creates a flavorful barrier that prevents sogginess and adds incredible taste.

Step 4: Add the First Cheese Layer
Sprinkle half of the grated parmesan cheese evenly over the buttered flatbreads. The parmesan goes directly on the butter so it can caramelize slightly and create those crispy, golden edges everyone fights over.

Step 5: Top with Mozzarella
Distribute the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly across all four flatbreads, covering the parmesan layer. Don’t be shy—generous cheese coverage is what makes this pizza so satisfying.

Step 6: Season and Finish
Sprinkle the Italian seasoning over the cheese, along with red pepper flakes if you’re using them. Add the remaining parmesan cheese on top—this top layer will get beautifully golden and crispy in the oven.

Step 7: Bake to Perfection
Place the baking sheet in your preheated oven and bake for 8-12 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and starting to turn golden brown in spots. The edges of the flatbread should be crispy and golden. Keep an eye on them during the last few minutes to prevent burning.

Step 8: Garnish and Serve
Remove from the oven and immediately garnish with freshly chopped parsley. If desired, drizzle with a touch of extra virgin olive oil for added richness. Let cool for 2-3 minutes, then cut into strips or squares and serve hot.

Notes

  • Crispier base: For an extra crispy bottom, bake the plain flatbreads for 2-3 minutes before adding toppings.
  • Garlic intensity: Adjust the amount of fresh garlic based on your preference. For milder flavor, use 3-4 cloves instead of 5-6.
  • Cheese variations: Try adding fontina, gruyere, or white cheddar for different flavor profiles.
  • Make it a meal: Add cooked chicken, crumbled bacon, or sautéed mushrooms for extra protein and substance.
  • Watch carefully: Ovens vary significantly. Start checking at 8 minutes to prevent over-browning.
